Honouring the Fallen: Pupils Lead Poignant Remembrance Day Ceremony

In a moving ceremony, our school came together to remember the sacrifices of those who served and fell in conflicts, including the brave men of the Chorley Pals Battalion. A special tribute was led by one of our pupils, demonstrating respect, reflection, and leadership.

The school community gathered on the morning of November 11th to mark Remembrance Day with a heartfelt ceremony that reflected on the sacrifices made by soldiers in wars past and present. With dignity and poise, Alex delivered a stirring speech to the assembled pupils, and staff, setting a tone of solemnity and respect.

The speech opened with a tribute to all who served, paying homage to the Chorley Pals Battalion. Alex reminded everyone that the Chorley Pals were “ordinary men who answered the extraordinary call of duty, standing side by side, united not just by their shared uniform, but by their shared hope for a better tomorrow.”

The ceremony continued with the recitation of Laurence Binyon’s timeless words:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.”

This was followed by the sounding of The Last Post, a Two Minute Silence, and Reveille, creating a reflective and solemn atmosphere. The Kohima Epitaph was also shared:

“When you go home, tell them of us and say,

For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

Reflecting on the event, Head Teacher Mrs Rigby said, “It was truly humbling to see our pupils come together with such respect and thoughtfulness. Special thanks go to Alex for delivering a speech that brought both poignancy and pride to our Remembrance ceremony.”

The event highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for peace, fostering a spirit of gratitude and unity within our school community.

Lest we forget.
