Waterloo Lodge School Year 6 and 7 pupils were delighted to visit the Town Hall for a very special opportunity to meet the Mayor and learn more about the important role they play within our community. Upon arrival, pupils were welcomed into the council meeting room, where they had the chance to experience the setting in which important local decisions are discussed and made. Before meeting the mayor, pupils were reminded of the traditions and expectations surrounding a mayoral visit, including standing to welcome her arrival and respectfully addressing her as “Madam Mayor.”
The pupils proudly presented the Mayor with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which had been carefully grown and nurtured by our very own school horticulture team. This was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to showcase the skills, dedication and care that go into maintaining our horticulture area. During the visit, pupils learnt about the mayor’s role, responsibilities and the history behind the position. They discovered how the role has developed over time and gained a greater understanding of how the mayor supports and represents the local community.
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to see some of the important symbols associated with the role of Mayor. Pupils were privileged to view the Mayor’s ceremonial chains and even had the chance to hold the mace, making the experience even more memorable.
Throughout the visit, our pupils represented the school exceptionally well. They were polite, respectful and engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and confidently sharing their own knowledge and ideas. It was fantastic to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they made the most of this unique learning experience. To celebrate their visit, pupils received certificates and gifts to take home as a reminder of their special day at the Town Hall.
