CSI: Pupils Crack the Case in a Real-Life Detective Adventure!

Pupils Crack the Case in a Real-Life Detective Adventure!

Ever wondered what it’s like to solve a crime? Pupils at Waterloo Lodge School got a taste of life as a crime scene investigator in a thrilling, hands-on workshop. Guided by local officers, PC Deary and PC Christian, they explored forensic techniques, discovered the science behind fingerprinting, and even found inspiration to pursue careers in law enforcement. Read on to uncover the full story of this unforgettable learning experience!

Pupils from Mr Ormerod’s Form had an exciting and informative enrichment opportunity to step into the shoes of real-life crime scene investigators. The classroom transformed into a hub of activity as pupils donned protective clothing, not only for the cool factor but also to avoid contaminating evidence—just like the professionals.

The session was packed with hands-on activities. Pupils learned the importance of fingerprints in solving crimes and practiced taking their own prints using a variety of specialist techniques. From dusting for prints to comparing patterns, their detective skills were put to the test. Of course, we made sure to eliminate “suspect” prints (our pupils!) from the investigation using science-based methods. It was messy, exciting, and absolutely fascinating!

Fun fact: Did you know that the Lancashire Constabulary, one of the oldest Police forces in the country, leads on community policing initiatives that involve everyone, from cadets to seasoned officers? Their work highlights how police careers are not just about catching “baddies” but also about building safer, stronger communities.

We’re so proud of our pupils for their curiosity and effort throughout the session. Who knows? The next great detective might just come from Mr Ormerod’s Form!
