Eco Town and Trashion Show

Pupils from Waterloo Lodge School recently took a fantastic trip to Eco‑Town in Leyland, where pupils had the chance to explore how recycling works in the real world and specifically within Lancashire.

The visit gave everyone a close look at the full journey of waste, from how materials are sorted, to what can be reused, to the surprising number of everyday items that can be given a second life.

Staff at Eco‑Town explained the importance of reducing waste and showed us innovative ways communities are working toward a more sustainable future. It was eye‑opening, practical, and sparked plenty of ideas.

Inspired by what we learned, we returned to school ready to put that knowledge into action. Instead of simply talking about recycling, pupils and staff collected clean, safe items from their own rubbish and transformed them into something creative. This led to our very own trashion show during form time.

Using bottles, cardboard, wrappers, newspapers, and other recyclables, pupils designed clothing, accessories, and props. Some created hats from cereal boxes, others crafted jewellery from plastic lids, and a few even built full outfits from layered paper and plastic bags and other recyclables.
