VE Day and were a credit to their parents and carers. School was festooned with Union Jack bunting and pictures they’d created. They enjoyed a wartime lunch of Woolton pie with SPAM and jam roll. Some experienced life as evacuees working on the farms tending herbs and veggies. Others played forgotten games like egg and spoon races and hoops and sticks.
They showed sensitivity and curiosity as they discussed footage and photos of Britain on VE Day 1945. One of many highlights was handling an original infant’s gas mask which helped to bring the past to life in their fingers. Our Explorers class created medals for the returning soldiers. The pupils of KS3 empathised with the youngsters of WW2 and truly understood the reason why VE Day was celebrated across the UK and Ireland.
It was a wonderful day for all and raised money for NW Air Ambulance.
